South Gascoyne Rest Area, Western Australia

Saturday, July 23rd saw us heading South towards Meekathara. We stopped at Gascoyne River South Branch which was 276 Km from Newman for an overnight stay. This was a nice free camp with new toilets and a dump point. The Toilets are drop toilets but were fairly clean so 2.5 stars.

The campground is quite spread out and it is easy to find a private area to setup camp. We found a nice graveled area around a huge sheltered picnic area for ourselves.

The site proved fairly popular and filled up in the afternoon but wasn't crowded because of the layout. We gathered some firewood in the afternoon and Rans got a fire going. Was nice to sit around the fire and have a few drinks. Was a fairly cool night and morning.

Very nice free camp and highly recommended for an overnight stop.
