Gundagai, New South Wales

Monday March 20th saw us say our goodbyes to Yackandandah and start heading towards home. We joined the Hume Highway at Wodonga and headed to Gundagai. The traffic was fairly light and we arrived at Morley's Creek Reserve before lunch. This was a lovely free camp just across the bridge from the downtown area. No facilities but nice big area beside the creek and very close to town. There were half a dozen vans when we arrived but would have been 20 some by nightfall.

Once we got setup we took a walk into town. Walked the length of the main street to the Tourist Centre and back along the river. Picked up a few groceries at the local IGA as well. Nice old town with lovely sidewalks being constructed while we were there.

We took another walk to the two old bridges located in town. One road and one rail. There was a herd of cows roaming the area as well. Got a few pictures and returned to the campground. We spent a quiet night indoors as rain was threatening. We got a few showers during the night but were lucky enough to pack up before it got too wet. We likely would have stayed another day but the forecast was not good.

A late update on this trip. The weather was poor in the morning and we headed towards home. Had a good travel day and kept going as long as we could. We finally stopped at 12 Mile Rest area North of Raymond Terrace. Was really noisy from the highway and hot so we packed up and moved to the Australian Motorhome Park just near there. It is fairly expensive but at least we were able to have air conditioning and power for our last night on the road.

We headed home the next morning arriving before lunch. Another great trip but good to be home again. Highlights of this journey in no particular order were:
  • Lakes Entrance
  • Wilsons Promontory
  • 12 Apostles section of Great Ocean Road
  • The Grampians
  • Beechworth/Yackandandah
Until next time!
