Wednesday morning we were again headed East to Ceduna; and the end of our Nullarbor adventure. Stopped at Penong for hole #16 which is our last stop before Ceduna. Penong was our first stop that was actually a bit of a town. All the others were basically a roadhouse only. Another better hole although Rans got the shits with me because I bounced one off a tree and back towards the green. Thought he was going to pick up a couple of strokes on me; but not this time. Also a bit of an oddity as we were getting back in the cars I spotted this chain of about 25 caterpillars making it's way across the parking lot.
Penong seemed to have a large number of windmills around it of which we got a photo from the car window. The Diesel here was also the cheapest we have seen since we left Kalgoorlie.
Arrived in Ceduna before lunch and got setup at Shelley Beach Caravan Park. Very nice cosy park with friendly staff, and lots of shade and privacy. A bit awkward to get into but nice. Numerous ensuite locations throughout the park which are large, modern, and clean. We headed back to the hospital where Sandra got a full prescription for her antibiotics. Stopped at Pharmacy and grocery store for supplies. Fresh fruit and veggies at the top of the list after crossing the quarantine just before Ceduna.
We have developed a problem with the wiring to the caravan. Rans and I worked on it a bit in Fowler Bay but couldn't resolve. I took it into the Nissan dealer in Ceduna for a look. They verified most of the things that Rans and I had checked. Isolated the problem done to an ECU unit which the wiring harness connects to. Have to get from Mitsubishi so arranged to have done in Port Lincoln next week. Sandra finally had a good night sleep and hopefully is on the mend.
Thursday morning we spent doing cleaning and other maintenance. We gave our Bushman and Waeco fridge/freezers a really good clean. We have run our meat supplies low over the last couple of weeks to assist in the cleaning process. Stephen, Carol, and I went to the Ceduna Golf Course where we completed our final two holes of the Nullarbor Links. We tallied up the scorecards with John 117 and Stephen 134. Off to the Visitor Centre where we collected our personalised certificates of completion. The golf was a good laugh and a welcome diversion on the drive across the Nullarbor.
The afternoon saw the four of us do a bit of sightseeing around Ceduna. We went to various Jetty's and lookouts along the Ceduna foreshore. Took a drive out to Denial Bay and MacKenzie Ruins. Stopped at IGA and a fish shop on the way home for our planned seafood feast. Stephen and I enjoyed a dozen Ceduna Oysters, which are huge, for an appetiser. Coconut and Garlic Prawns followed before the main course of fish and chips. Delicious and all of us were stuffed by the end.
Friday is a rest, clean, and preparation day for the next leg of our journey. A bit of shopping in the afternoon before cheese and biscuits. Topped off with a BBQ Steak dinner. Sandra is finally getting back to normal. Starting to eat normally and the back is loosening up. Won't have to shoot her after all! We are off in the morning towards Streaky Bay. Talk to you all again soon!
