On the Road Again! May 2nd, 2017

Back on the road again for a couple of months. The plan is to head North to Queensland possibly meeting up with Maureen & Gary, and Carol & Stephen at Gladstone.

A quick shot out the back window the morning we left to remind ourselves what a great place we live.

Had a good trip down to Heddon Greta where we got the caravan setup in Steph's driveway. Took Sandra out to Bolwarra Heights for a haircut with Michelle in the afternoon. I did a bit of shopping while Sandra was being pampered. We took the kids out to Heddon Greta Pub for dinner as an early celebration of Stephanie's 27th birthday. The years certainly seem to go by quicker as we get older! We had a nice meal and a good visit.

Next morning we said our goodbyes to Tim and Stephanie as they headed off to work. We got a good start and headed up the Hunter Expressway. We had an uneventful trip through Denman and Merriwa arriving in Cassilis around lunch time. We chose to stay at the Bowling club as was only $10/night for powered site with water. Amenity block had hot showers and flush toilets which were relatively clean. The Bowling Club and Cassilis in general looks like they have seen better days. That being said there were probably another 6-8 vans there for the night and a number of them took advantage of a cold drink and meal at the club. Had another van pull in within 5 feet of ours on the door side when there was stacks of space on our other side or numerous other locations in the park. The guy said we didn't have our awning out so thought it would be fine. What an idiot!

We took a walk into town in the afternoon for some exercise and to see if they had a grocery shop. No grocery shop and the town looks very tired. Only a single pub that was open for businesses. The Police Station and Court House were beautiful old sandstone buildings. The afternoon got quite cool so we spent a quiet night in the caravan. We had planned to stay a few nights but given there was really nothing to see in town we decided to move on the next day. We would recommend the spot as a good cheap overnight stop but not sure if there is any reason to stay more than one night.
