Thursday February 22nd saw us packing up at Devonport and heading West. We were woken by our travel partners letting us know that they were new grandparents. Adam and Kate had a son named Khan Bailey Ransley in Singapore overnight. All were healthy and happy. How exciting!
We only travelled the short distance to Burnie where we set up at a free camp at Cooee Point. Not much for facilities although there was a place to fill up with drinking water and a dump point. It was a beautiful day and a great location right on the water. We managed to get a few trees beside us that blocked out the wind nicely as well.
We had a quick stop at the visitor centre and grocery shop in the early afternoon. Downtown Burnie is not laid out very well and the shopping centre parking is some of the worst we have ever seen. Fruit and Veggies were almost non-existent at Coles because of the increasing quarantine. We got our basic supplies and returned to our caravans for a relaxing afternoon soaking up the sun and the great views. Quite a few phone calls for the new grandparents as well. Rans and I celebrated with a nice bottle of Red wine.
There was some interesting rock patterns along the coast when the tide went out. We also saw a Bandicoot in our site just before nightfall. Hadn't seen one before but would have to say they are quite rat like.
The wind came up a bit during the night but luckily we were somewhat sheltered. Still made for a somewhat restless night. The rain began during the night as well and was set in for a few days. We had a quiet day but treated ourselves to a movie, The Greatest Showman, in Burnie. Wonderful movie and a good way to spend a rainy day. The rest of the day was spent inside keeping dry.
The morning saw us wake up to find huge lakes around our caravan. No damage but I was forced to walk around in bare feet to get the van organized and hooked up. What a difference a day can make.
We decided to head West again as Burnie didn't really offer much that interested us.
