Wednesday morning saw us head South bypassing Bunburry to camp near Capel. We tried a free camp South of Capel first but was too small for the 3 vans and had no facilities. We back tracked the few kilometres to Capel and headed East towards Donnybrook. Found the Ironstone Gully Falls campsite about 17km East of Capel. It was quite roomy but small roads and a bit of trick manoeuvring to park our caravans. Nice and shady with a very basic toilet block. The river bed was rocky and dry but looked like it would be quite a site in heavy rain.
Once we got settled in we served up the Blue Swimmer crabs from last night for lunch. Not a bad lunch time snack. They were very tasty although a bit more fiddly than the Mud crabs we had eaten previously.
After lunch we took a drive into Donnybrook in the afternoon. A very cute old town which was very tidy. Claims to be one of the Apple Capitals of Australia and had the lamp posts below to prove it. We did a bit of shopping and made a few phone calls before heading back to the campsite which had no mobile coverage. Had a late afternoon happy hour with the six of us although we were interrupted by the largest, greenest, March flies we had ever seen. Tough little suckers; as needed to be stomped on after we had slapped them. Sandra almost broke my leg with one swat and the little bugger still needed to be stepped on.
We decided to move on to our next stop near Busselton as not much to see and a bit too far to commute into Bunburry. Terry & Di are staying in Bunburry for a couple of days to collect forwarded mail. We had a fairly good rain during the evening and night. Unfortunately it was still raining in the morning so we had to load up in the rain. Only the first time we have had to pack up in the rain for 9 months so pretty good.
